Ways On How To Get Kids To Listen

By Joseph Johnson

Getting a kid to pay attention and listen to what they are being told turns to be a challenging task to most people. This is because kids have a natural habit of being attracted to different things at the same time thus their focus is limited. However, using distinct approaches one can be able to master ways of how to get kids to listen.

The blame of kids not being able to listen attentively should not be placed on them. It is more on those communicating to them. If one uses the best method of talking to them, they will pay all their attention. The secret lies on how to divert their attention from what they are doing to what you want them t hear.

One should be a good role model to the kids. He or she should give the kids a listening ear whenever they want to tell him something even if it is something that is childish. This will make the kid interested in listening to them too since they know that whenever they want to say anything they will be listened to.

Some children fail to listen because they dislike being commanded. For such kids, one should develop a means of communicating to them through giving options regarding stuff they want the youngster to do. Telling the kid put on your shoes will be a command to them. But telling them you can wear the black or brown shoes is less commanding.

Their poor listening habits can be overcome when one uses songs or poems to teach something new. Poems and songs are absorbing to them hence are always eager to learn to concentrate. They can even learn faster through songs as they find it exciting to sing along to the melodies hence can do it over and over.

Moreover, those who are forced to repeat what they have just been told regularly pay attention. In a class environment for example; the teacher can say something and ask them to say it after her. This will force these learners to pay attention so that they can say it after the teacher.

Most children tend to pay attention more to things they have not come across with or things that are not conversant with. This is why the kid cannot pay attention to their dad but can focus on a bird on a tree. Therefore, children should be exposed to their environment so that they can be well conversant with it making them less attracted to what is around them.

The brain capacity of their is small. Thus, one should use a simple language to communicate to children. One should use short sentences composed of short words. Using of long sentences confuses them hence fail to understand what is said and will lose focus in listening.

Youngsters are very active in what they actually are doing. Though this may sound funny, kids tend to listen more when the one talking is active just like them . This mainly through the use of actions and other facial expressions. Children understand this better too.

It should be noted that the essence of making a kid listen to what is being said is through using methods that are appealing to the kid. If your child always does not listen to you change your approach to communication by trying to make it captivating.
