Locate the device in the gas control thermostat. On a nearby wall, the gas control for thermostat would be located on the outside of a gas tank. Search for a tube that is flexible and being plugged on the sides of a thermostat. It has a color red or silver. This is the tube that connects the valve right below pilot light.

Try to turn the pilot lights for at least thirty seconds. There is a label on the valves which is the control dials. Turn it into the pilot settings. Press the button for reset which is on the top of the box to switch on the lights. Steady press the buttons between thirty to sixty seconds to give time for the device to heat up.

Once the button has been released, see if the light has switch off. The pilots light will still stay on after the resets button has been pressed for some time. If it goes off, then this is an indication that there is something wrong with the thermocouple. Individuals can remove it and perform a more precise test or have it replaced.

In thermocouple applications, the tolerance table will tell an individual what accuracy or tolerance they can get from a particular device. The more precise requirement for the application is, the more costly it will become for the required applications. Accuracy and cost will compromise with each other.

Cost. There is a cost difference from each type of thermocouple. The difference will depend upon the kinds of materials that used to create the device. The low cost ones are made from common metals or widely known as base metal. These types are accurate yet inexpensive and widely used by many industrial applications that needs a thermocouple.

Listen closely for any clicking sounds on the valves. There is usually a clicking sound that can be heard where the pipes will meet with the valve box. If there is still clicking sounds before twenty second is over, then this is a sign that the system is in dire need for repairs. Its best to call a professional to handle the repairs.
