An Overview Of Geese Control

By Timothy West

There are many species of geese and they cause many problems for people. Droppings from these birds are one of the biggest problems. When the problems get too much then you will want to look at the options for geese control.

There is a number of companies who specialise in control of species which cause problems but there is also some homemade remedies that you can use. Home remedies can often be a lot cheaper than getting services from a company.

When you reach the point where you have had enough of the problems and you want to do something about it there is a number of options available. The first thing that you should do is to stop feeding the birds. These birds should not be feed in public area or on private land. It is important that the problem is dealt with before it becomes too big a problem. Making the property uninviting to the birds will help to reduce the problem and make controlling bird numbers a lot easier.

There are a number of control methods which can be used to control the problem. Many of thee methods are non-lethal whilst still being effective. Many of the companies that offer pest control services can provide these methods. Regardless of where the goose problem is there is a lot of options which can be used to deal with it.

It is not a good idea to feed human food to any species of wildlife. Food that is consumed by humans is not good in the diet of a goose. Geese will rapidly become used to getting handouts from humans and they will become domesticated, which will attract more migrating or wild birds.

One good way of dealing with this problem is to use decoys. A family of decoys can be a good way of preventing geese especially when they look like swans. These birds will still be looking for places to nest. Geese have a tendency to protect their young in a manner that is rather aggressive therefore birds will want to avoid this area. If decoys are left outside for long periods of time they can become an eyesore. These decoys can be used during the main migratory season in order to scare off the birds.

It is a good idea to make it hard for these birds to get access to water as this will keep them away from beaches and ponds. There are a number of ways that this can be achieved. A dock is a good way to reduce the ability to get access to the water. This should be a reasonable height so that the birds can climb onto it. A bird fence should be placed around the edge of the water.

The first instinct of a goose is to go for water if they feel threatened, therefore making access difficult will mean that they find somewhere else to nest.

There is a lawn treatment spray which is good for controlling the problem. Methyl anthanilate is one of the ingredients in this spray. This is a high-grade substance which has been used for a number of years in food for flavouring. This substance is biodegradable and it is easily broken down.
