Buying Guide On Pomeranians For Sale

By William Powell

Pomeranians are a breed of small dogs classed as a toy dog of the Spitz variety. Spitz type are dogs that long thick furs with pointed ears and muzzles and curly tails. Pomeranians, often called Pom, are a popular breed because of the current trend of owning small dogs.

Purchasing a Pom as pet requires commitment although may be costly yet the experience you will be a rewarding one. You must do research in caring for the properly and all the other things that you must know about them in order to become a responsible owner. Here are some things to know when looking for Pomeranians for sale in Oklahoma City.

Consider if the lifestyle you have fits with the energy of the small Pom breed. You must have enough free time on your schedule because they require lots of it. They need to be frequently brushed and groomed and be walked around a lot. Think about having a larger breed though if you prefer long hikes.

Ask the opinion of your family members and their expectations on potentially having a new member. Explain the needs the Pom has to them and have they got the time to brush, feed, walk, play and train them. Tell them that it is alright to be honest on what they feel and think as to prevent being surprised after the dog is brought home along with the responsibilities you must do.

Pomeranians are an expensive pet to have so make sure your finances will be able to handle it. After the initial cost of purchasing them, other expenses must be handled such as regular veterinarian visits, preventive medicines and shots. Toys, collar, tag and quality food are some of the other things that they would need. Grooming could be done by you but you still need to purchase tools and supplies for it. You can also go to professional grooming service although it is more expensive.

Avoid purchasing from puppy mills which are places that have many puppies bred but without thinking about the health or standard of living. Puppies from these places commonly have many health problems that may be expensive to take care of. In order to know if that establishment is a puppy mill, ask for the information of their veterinarian and check if they seem to always have puppies available for purchase.

Purchasing from pet stores should be avoided as well. Their sources are usually puppy mills although they will always deny it. They will insist that their source is a reputable breeder so ask for his information and check if it is true. Good pet stores usually offer dogs from animal shelter for adoption instead.

Differentiate between backyard and hobby breeders. Backyard breeders usually have little knowledge about training or standards and have not tested the dogs if they have genetic conditions. Hobby breeders are very cautious on which they breed and familiar with all their needs making sure the puppies are healthy before selling them.

Look for registered breeders. They only breed the best ones and will allow you to meet their dogs and check their facilities. They will also want to know if you would become a responsible owner by interviewing you.
